DELBERT BRIGGS 3

th next morning del left the house on a long winded half thourobred horse that had never been wore down. delbert had a lot of miles to cover and he was going to get it done this day.that bay horse was covering the ground. the pasture delbert was going to try and lure all the out laws into was ten sections with a big wind mill just two miles from the headquarters. it had a corral with the water trough in it. a large trap fenced ith net wire. but del didnt for a minute think that net wire ould hold the outlaws. . as he opened gated to adjoining pastures he would go into that pasture and close off the water improvements. the dirt tanks were fenced and the windmills he would set the brake on. when he would come back in the pickup for the salt he ould bring a bucket and scoop out the troughs. delbert was starting to get a little excited about this project. while he was rideing the fences a couple of times he would see some of the outlaw cows from a distance. he was almost foaming at the mouth thinking about catching them. as soon as he got them cleaned up he had a set of contract pasture cattle to stock the ranch. he hoped that they would produce enough cash flow to buy a few cows for him self. the bay was covering ground. he hadnt even drawen a long breath. del was tempted to run down one of the outlaw cows but he knew in his mind it wouldnt be good. if he caught one he would have to tie it a tree at least one night before leading her in. he bit his lip and rolled on, tieing gates open. on the last leg back to the house he started seeing hoof tracks going his way. he kicked the bay up a notch. they were a mile from the house but would he be lucky enough to catch some of these old snakes in the corral on water?as he got with in sight of the headquarters corral he couldnt see any cattle there. it let the air out of him. he long trotted into the yard and as he glanced over at the corral he could see five head of cows and calves bedded down in the shade of the fence. he spun the bay and made a mad dash to the gate just as the first cow and calf got to it.. he was able to haze them back and kept fighting the whole bunch until he got the gate shut and chained. delbert sat there a moment enjoying his good luck. " we can brand the calves afer lunch bay. he told the horse under him. he knew the cows and calves had a market value of almost 6 thousand dollers. it would help with the cost of the lick tubs and the tranqualizer. with any luck he would have them at the sale barn that week.
