DENTON CROUCH 6
in the mexican village of caborca five gringos were on a three day spree of drunkeness and womanising. they had delivered a stolen herd of texas cattle to california and had been on a party spree since leaveing california. when they reached gila bend they had run out of money and had taken advantage of a isolated ranch and plundered it for supplys and money. they had murdered the ranch owner, violated his wife and had taken their time in leaveing. but a alert mexican vaqyero had come upon the wreckage and reported it to the authoritys. the five out laws had just barely made it into mexico . the possee had turned back. but the mexican vaquero had continued on into mexico and followed the five. when he realized they were staying over in caborca he turned and rode for the nearest rurales . they would need little excuse to take these outlaws into custody.
on returning to gila bend the sherrif there had wired ahead to each county and alerted them of the five murderers who would be passing through their countys.
in caborca the five were on a spree of epic proportions. the poor people of caborca were huddled behind their doors. no one was safe. women couldnt walk the street without being acosted. the gringos took what they wanted, liqour , food, and any woman who was found out in the village. the morning of the third day one of the texans over heard a conversation between two old men discussing the rurales and when they would appear. he alerted his friends. their horses were rested and well fed on the sparse feed supplys the village had. just at dark the five out laws left caborca at a long trott headed north. they would escape the gripe of the rurales by just a hour.the next morning they crossed the international border just east of nogales. again they were almost out of money and the hangovers they carried demanded back up. just out side of patagonia they came onto a prosperous looking hacienda . theynhad ridden through a fair sized herd of cattle when they reached the hedquarters. when they rode into the yard they found no one there but a mexican care taker. when he wouldnt answer their questions they had clubbed the old man killing him and leaveing his body sprawled in the dust of the yard. when scavagening through the house the best they could find was a supply of flour and beans and a demijohn of tequila. these they took and rode on.the mexican vaquero who followed them to caborca was still on their trail. his horse was jaded and he was tired him self. he had run out of anything to eat. when he rode into the yard and found the dead caretaker. his anger intinsified. he cared for the body and found a fresh horse in the corrals. he went through the house and found a couple of air tights the bandits had over looked. these he ate then mounted the fresh horse a this vaquero was in search of blood, revenge, he would live on roasted cactus if he needed to but these men would sooner than later fall under thee sights of his guns. and he took the trail. the trail led east along the border.
