the fair
years ago the mrs. and i always went to the state fair. it was kinda like a mecca for us. we always went right at sundown to get the best effect. the fact we had 3 kids didnt slow us down . one time the olest boy was 6, the high loper 4 and the blonde bomber was 3. we took my wifes younger brother to help us with the kids. when we got to the gate the line was a mile long. we were patient, took our turn and shuffled along in line until we bought our tickets and got in the gate. there was a huge crowd milling around just inside the gate. the mrs. had the bomber in her arms, i had ty by the hand and brother in law had the high loper, we thought! after we waded through that huge mob we realized we didnt have the high loper! we ALL thought one of the others had him. he was gone, gone, gone! we split and went to searching , franticly, for a little long legged dark haired boy in wranglers, boots and a plaid shirt. everyone we ask shook their heads, hadnt seen him. i went to security and they put out the call on the radio to all the security people. golf carts mwere whizzing every which way. anxious eyes searched every corner, every shadow. after about a half hour the brother inlaw came hollering, we got him. we all rushed in the direction he went. around the corner of a consession stand and there was the high loper, sitting on the counter , eating fry bread fed by a smilling navaho lady. he had been there all the time. they had watched the security carts whizz by not knowing what was goin on. the security people thought that the high loper was a navaho kid and paid him no mind! but he was in good hands all the time. no wonder he has always had a soft spot for the navaho tribe!
