when tobey drove back into his yard he was surprised to see a sherrif deputys car parked by a loaded pick up. roberto stood to one side and a fellow dressed as a cowboy was talking to the deputy. when tobey got out of his truck rberto came over to him" that man says he was buying hay on credit. i dont know that man, never sold him hay on crdit or cash" " well your right , we dont sell hay on credit. lets go see what the law man is saying"tobey started walking toward the two men. the cowboy looking man was haveing a slobbering fit" my boss said we had a account here. the man said. the deputy looked over to tobey" the hired man there says there is no account, your the owner is there a account for mr tubbs?" " ive never met or talked to the man. we sell here cash on the barrel head. he cant pay unload the hay."tobey tried to be civil. but tubbs trying this was really bad. the hired man was cussing and kicking rocks" my boss isnt going to like this." can you pay for the hay?"the deputy asked. " the man dug out his wallet and pulled some cash out he started counting but came up ten dollers short. the deputy never batted a eye" unload ten dollers worth." tobey stood back and watched roberto pull one bale of the truck ."thats enough roberto take what he has" the man handed over the cash and roberto wrote out a reciept and gave him a copy. the deputy backed his car out of the way and the man left. the deputy came over to tobey. " they have pulled that crap all over town.. the hardware store, the gas station a resteraunt. that tubbs guy is a peice of work its a good thing i followed him in here. he would have been gone if roberto had to call us. when i saw him driveing through town i suspicioned something was up."the deputy stated. " well i dont want to go to war with anyone over a bale of hay. thank you." tobey thanked the deputy. roberto was shapeing up the hay barn in preperation of the next load of hay. tobey sat on his porch with a glass of ice tea. juana was in the house fixing lunch. tobey had a note book and a hand held calculater, the checking account had a good amount of cash in it but that was to pay for the truck load of hay and the wages for roberto and juana. he didnt want to dip into the saveings account unless it was a emergency. he would wait to see what hi said.
