the next day ten minutes after the bank opened denton strolled into the lobby. the banks operating officer came across the room and shook his hand " come sit down, i have good news." he said. when denton was seated at the mans desk browning dug around in the papers on the desk smiling all the while. " the board of directers is more than pleased to do business with you. your quite the celebraty you know. oh, here we go." he took a hand full of papers and put them in order the tapped them on the desk to line everything up neat." your proposal was met with approval by all members. just so you know there are approxamatly 400 cattle and their increase that comes with the property." denton nodded" i was hopeing that was the case." browning handed the sheaf of papers to denton" read those through. ill be back in a few moments. if your in agreement we can sign every thing and you will be in the cow business." browning got up and went behind the counter and was talking to one of the cashiers.denton shuffled through the pages glanceing at what was written there . he didnt want to seem ignorant but he didnt understand the language on most of the pages. when he got to the last page i saw it was a promissary note for the amount the previous owners owed plus intrest. that he under stood. he laid the papers on the desk and was looking around for a pen and ink when browning returned. browning wasted no time produceing a bottle of ink and a pen. when denton had signed the bottom of the note then browning called across the room to a casheir, he walked over and browning explained this man was a notary public. then browning signed for the bak and the notary signed below them both. browning then told denton to come back later in the day and his copys of all this paperwork would be ready. denton stood up and reached across the desk and shook hands with browning. " you dont know what this means, its a fresh start at life. " browning nodded " good luck" denton headed to the boarding house. he wanted to tell jody right away. at the boarding house pearl had finally come out ofmher shell to some extent. when she finished breakfast she had grabbed a broom and began sweeping she had stayed busy all morning. jody watched and took everything the young girl did in approval. she was beginning to take a likeing to her.
