BORDER SEARCH 34

del was a couple of miles ahead of the army detail and andy s wagon. maxine wanted to ride with him but he sent her back. she did her usual pout when she didnt get her way, but she went.they had passed the spot where they had shot up the rurales. the detail took enough time to drag the corpses out of the road way and dig some rushed graves. del was rideing up over a slight rise where he could look down on ruby. a few buildings remained intact but the store building looked to be half burnned. a part of the roof had caved in. he shook his head and looked back and could see the wagon top rocking along as they followed the army detail. he sat there watching the town and then back to the cavalcade comming up behind him. his brain was raceing with all kinds of possibilities for the future.that he was attracted to that hard headed woman , maxine was no secret. he just wasnt sure he could keep her in hand without a stock whip! as for andy setting up a store he felt it was a good venture if the revolutionists didnt interfere. and harry, a cattle ranch in the works, the country would sustain it. but would the bandits not raid it and drive the stock south? looking down into the ghost town he could see a coyote slinking around the buildings. a sure sign no one waitted there. looking farther south he could see no activity of a human source. maybe the army had moved on. there was nothing here for them any longer. did harrys silver still rest in the mine shaft? did they find it? in the next day or so when he was sure the army and the bandits were gone he would go see. this isnt what he had planed, but then what the hell he nothing else to do. besides maxine needed watching , a lot.
