RAIN

being a Arizona native, the son of natives and such  over the years I have come to realize that a agriculturist  spends his life looking to the sky, and to the west south west looking for the tell tale looming clouds that protend rain.  I don't care if your a cotton farmer, hay farmer or cow man rain dictates the decisions you make in your life and lifestyle.  the other morning before sunrise I set on my porch, cup of coffee in hand and felt the cool, moist breeze off a thunder storm in the east. lightning forked down out of the sky  blowing up dust and smoke where it hit. the thunder from that event would rattle the windows at my house. but it was by far the best show in the southwest.   those big fat rain drops were smackin the ground like a beaver tail slappin the pond!! you could almost hear the dirt soakin up the moisture.  its simply amazin how fast a green haze starts to cover bare ground and plants that have been waitin for just the right rain to sprout.  the little frogs and toads that burrow into the ground waiting for rain surfaced and starting croakin for a mate while the rain started puddlin up and runnin down the ditches on the road side. my home here in southeastern Arizona had been without a measureable rain for longer than anyone could remember!! but with in a  few moments the fortune of life was reversed.  some where this morning a mother cow is licken the moisture off her new calf, waittin for the sun to dry the dew from her back. a big dirt tank is brimming full, and a rancher is repairing a water gap that washed away in the night , singin a song as he works. for the short time it lasts our lives will be better because the rain gods blessed us with this much missed and needed moisture!!
