better rats

 along about the late 70 s and early 80 s what i like to refer to as the hippy movement, was whinning and crying about food aditives .  one of their main points was a little thing called stilbestrol.  this was a hormone fed to cattle that would increase their efficiny in gaining weight.  the so called educated folks were trying to tell us they were finding the POSSIBLE evidence of cancer in lab rats who had been fed stilbestrol.
     well the whole country went up in arms!! terrible, were being poisoned they screamed. the lame stream press was reporting that the food chain in our nation was tainted with this terrible hormone!! the fact of the matter was chicken ranchers had been feeding it to chikens for 20 years before the cattle industry took it up. ime not sure but they may still be using it.
      the facts about stilbestrol( and this came out after the ban on it) was there never was a confirmed case of cancer caused by stilbestrol. and a lab had determined that for  a human to get cancer from it he would have to eat 70 tons of it at one setting to even be at risk of cancer!! but the damage was done.
      i had to agree with a writter who commented on the situation. he stated lab rats were runny nosed beady eyed  weak little critters who couldnt sustain themselves if they tried. he proposed we develop a new breed of rat, one who could smoke a carton of cigaretts, drink a six pack of beer and eat a cardboard sandwich without staggering!! i think we should take a person who uses bad science to get his or her way and make them the lab rat!!
