tail gates are dangerous

over the years ive seen this happen numerouse times. with results from a scratch to unconsiousness, and stiches.
i was working in the tovera yard in pheonix . one of the principals there raised registered charlois cattle on the side. one sat afternoon i was the only one at the yard just puttin in my time. there was a kid there whose daddy was a feed truck driver. he was hangin out waittin for his dad to get off work. harold, the owner of the registered cattle called the scale house and asked if i would take the company pick up and trailer to the sale yard and pick up a bull that had been mistakenly left there. since i was twiddlin my thumbs any way i agreed to the chore. billy the kid wanted to go and i saw no problem with that. we would only be gone a few minutes. the truck was a chevy short bed pickup and the trailer was a bumper pull hale stock trailer with wooden slates bolted in place.
when we got to the sale barn not a soul was to be found. we set the trailer in place to load the bull and went lookin for him. after a few minutes we found mr. bull, locked in a dry corral, about as big as a postage stamp. mr. bull had been there a couple days, no water, no feed.  when i open the gate he came at us like a locomotive, hooked his head at me as he thundered by. i had stepped behind the gate post and as the bull headed up the ally i fell in behind a joggin along. little billy was settin on the fence at the trailer out of harms way. as we got close to the trailer i yelled at the bull who broke into a run with me right on his heels at a dead run. as the bull jumped into the trailer i swung the tail gate shut as the bull was swithching ends in the trailer. then the lights went out.
when i came around i was settin on the ground at the end of the trailer, the bull was still in the trailer, the gate was latched, billy was washing my face with a wet rag. my head felt like a trip hammer was going inside.
billy said the bull had hit the end gate as i shut it, the gate hitting me in the forhead.  he said i latched the gate and then sat down. i had a 3 inch hole in my forhead where one of the bolts in the tail gate had tapped me between the eyes!! the wet rag billy was bathin my face with was saturated in blood.
after unloading the bull back home billies dad drove me to a local emergency room where i got a tetnus shot and 5 stiches in my head. i ate aspirin for a week before that trip hammer shut down. i was lucky. ive known truckers loading fat cattle who have teeth knocked out, jaws broken and one lost a eye.  i saw a horse shoer helping load a bronc  get slammed in the face with a kicked tailgate. so folks watch them tailgates they are dangerous!!
